Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey is meticulously crafted through a well-defined production process that honors both tradition and innovation in whiskey-making. The initial stage begins with the selection of high-quality 100% malted barley, which is crucial for achieving the signature flavor profile. This barley is subjected to a traditional mashing process, where hot water is added to convert the starches into fermentable sugars. Following mashing, the liquid known as wort is cooled and transferred to fermentation tanks, where carefully cultured yeast is introduced. This fermentation process typically lasts several days, during which the sugars are converted into alcohol, resulting in a low-alcohol beer-like liquid called 'wash.' The wash is then distilled twice in pot stills, which is characteristic of Irish whiskey production. The first distillation occurs in a wash still, followed by a second distillation in a spirit still, reaching the desired alcohol content of about 92 percent ABV. After distillation, the spirit is placed in a selection of five different wine cask types for maturation: Sherry, Port, Madeira, and White Burgundy.
