The Sazerac brand was officially introduced in 2001, reviving the classic whiskey recipe that had been largely forgotten over the decades. Today, Sazerac Rye is produced at Buffalo Trace Distillery, one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the United States, ensuring quality and tradition remain at the forefront of its production.

The production of Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey begins with a meticulously crafted mash bill, prominently featuring a blend consisting of 51% rye along with corn and malted barley. The grains are ground and mixed with water to create a mash, then heated in a cooker to convert the starches from the grains into fermentable sugars. Once cooled, yeast is introduced to the mash to initiate fermentation, lasting several days and transforming sugars into alcohol. The resultant wash is then distilled in a column still to separate the alcohol from the solid components. After distillation, the spirit is transferred into new charred American oak barrels for aging. Sazerac Rye is matured for a minimum of six years, allowing it to develop its complex flavor profile while absorbing character from the oak. During the aging process, the whiskey undergoes evaporation and interaction with the barrel, which enhances its color and depth. Once the whiskey reaches the desired age, it is carefully bottled at 45% alcohol by volume, ensuring its flavor and character are preserved without the addition of any artificial additives or colorings.
