Introduction
Mars Komagatake "Yakushima Aging" Single Malt Whisky represents a unique expression of Japanese craftsmanship, with its production taking place in the beautiful natural environment of Yakushima Island—recognized for its luxuriant cedar forests and abundant waters. Crafted with meticulous attention, this whisky is distilled at the Mars Shinshu Distillery, located in Nagano Prefecture, and is notably un-chill filtered, retaining a rich character and complexity. The whisky is notable for its very light peat influence of about 6 parts per million (ppm), which contributes a gentle smokiness that complements the creamy and fruity notes. It is diluted to 53% alcohol by volume to emphasize its juicy fruit aspects. As one of the standout expressions from the distillery, it is celebrated for its refreshing qualities, which makes it appealing to both novice whisky drinkers and aficionados alike. The 2021 release marks the fourth iteration of this series, showcasing consistent quality and the distillery's commitment to experimentation and refinement.
