The production of Laphroaig 10 Year Old begins with the careful selection of high-quality malted barley, which is sourced principally from the region. Following drying, the malt is ground and mixed with warm water in the mash tun to extract fermentable sugars. The resulting wort is transferred to wooden washbacks, where yeast is added, initiating the fermentation process. After fermentation, the liquid is distilled twice in traditional pot stills, which help to concentrate the flavors. The spirit is then aged for a minimum of ten years in ex-bourbon casks, allowing it to mature and develop the complex character for which Laphroaig is celebrated.
