The production of Ichiro's Malt The Game Hanyu begins with the careful selection of raw materials, predominantly high-quality barley, which undergoes traditional malting processes. Once malted, the barley is milled, and mixed with pure water, which contributes to the fermentation process. Yeast is then introduced to this mash, initiating fermentation that typically lasts around six days, leading to the production of a wash with an alcohol content of around 8-10%. After fermentation, the wash undergoes distillation, where it is carefully distilled in pot stills to enhance the character of the spirit. This distillation occurs in two stages: the low wines distillation and the second distillation, producing a spirit with high alcohol content. Following distillation, the spirit is matured in casks—specifically Mizunara oak—where it develops its intricate flavors over an aging period of 11 years. The choice of Mizunara wood is crucial, as it imparts distinct aromas and flavors that are sought after in high-quality Japanese whiskies. After aging, the whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 57.5%, retaining its vibrant flavor profile while ensuring a rich, authentic experience for the consumer.
