History

The origins of The Glenlivet date back to 1824 when George Smith, a pioneer and visionary, established the distillery in the scenic Glenlivet valley of Scotland's Speyside region. At a time when illicit distillation was rampant, Smith was granted the first legal distilling license in the area, setting the foundation for a legacy that continues to thrive today. The Glenlivet was one of the first brands to be exported, leading to its extensive global recognition. Fabrication Process

The process begins with the selection of the finest malted barley, which is ground into a coarse flour known as grist. This grist is then combined with warm water in large mash tuns, where the starches are converted into fermentable sugars. After this, the liquid, now called wort, is collected and transferred to fermentation vessels where yeast is added. Here, the fermentation process occurs, transforming the sugars into alcohol over several days. The resulting wash is then distilled twice in traditional pot stills, where the low wines are produced and subsequently distilled again to yield a high-strength spirit. Following distillation, the spirit is carefully aged for a minimum of 12 years in a combination of European and American oak casks, which impart distinctive flavor characteristics. The final product is then expertly blended from various casks to achieve the desired flavor profile before bottling, ensuring a consistent and high-quality whisky experience.
