Fabrication Process

Cardhu 15 Year Old begins its journey with the careful selection of premium malted barley, which forms the basis of the whisky. The process starts with mashing the barley with hot water to extract fermentable sugars, leading to the creation of wort. This wort is then combined with yeast in fermentation vessels, where the yeast converts the sugars into alcohol, resulting in a wash with about 8% alcohol by volume. The wash is distilled twice in traditional copper pot stills, which are meticulously maintained to ensure optimal results. The first distillation occurs in the wash still, followed by a second round in the spirit still. After this, the heart of the distillation is separated from the heads and tails, ensuring that only the finest spirit is captured for maturation. The distilled spirit is then filled into a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, where it matures for at least 15 years. The interaction between the spirit and the wood during aging imbues the whisky with complex flavors and aromas before bottling.
