For decades, Ardbeg Ten, with its classic 10-year maturity, has been a beloved expression, but the call for a cask strength version lingered for years. Finally, in response to their dedicated fan base and members of the Ardbeg Committee, the distillery unveiled this robust expression, allowing enthusiasts to experience its core flavors in their purest form. The release received resounding acclaim and has since become a symbol of Ardbeg's resolve to deliver peak whisky experiences in line with its rich heritage and innovative spirit.

Fabrication Process

The creation of Ardbeg 10 YO Cask Strength begins with the careful selection of malting barley, which is sourced from local suppliers, emphasizing the distillery’s commitment to regional production. The barley undergoes traditional malting processes, which include soaking, germinating, and drying, allowing it to develop its unique flavor profiles. After malting, the barley is ground into grist, then mixed with warm water in a mash tun to extract fermentable sugars. This mash then ferments for up to 72 hours in wooden washbacks, producing a wash with an alcohol content of about 8-9%. This wash is then distilled twice through Ardbeg's copper pot stills, a process that enhances the spirit's richness and complexity. The new make spirit is filled into ex-bourbon American oak casks for maturation, a process that allows the whisky to absorb the character of the wood and develop its distinct flavor profiles over a minimum of 10 years. Notably, this cask strength version is bottled without chill filtration, ensuring the integrity of flavor is maintained, and showcasing the true essence of Ardbeg.
