Zuidam Distillers

Founded in 1975 by Fred van Zuidam, the story of Zuidam Distillers began from a passionate vision of crafting exclusive spirits. Initially set up under the name Baarle International, Fred crafted a small distillery that utilized a single copper pot still, emphasizing the qualities that would become signature traits of Zuidam products—attention to detail and remarkable flavor dynamics. Fred’s wife, Helene, joined him in 1985 and started experimenting with traditional Dutch Genever recipes, further expanding their product line. Over the years, Zuidam Distillers has evolved significantly. In 1995, the distillery moved to a larger facility to accommodate the growing demand and production levels. The introduction of Millstone, Zuidam’s flagship whisky line, was another significant milestone that helped establish the distillery on the global stage, with Millstone whiskies continuing to win awards and accolades across various competitions. The distillery has remained independent, a rarity in an industry increasingly dominated by large conglomerates, and continues to be managed by the Van Zuidam family, who are actively involved in every aspect of production, ensuring continuity of their tradition and craftsmanship.

Zuidam Distillers is strategically situated at Smederijstraat 5 in Baarle-Nassau, a town straddling the border between the Netherlands and Belgium. This unique geographic placement is characterized by its rural landscape and resource-rich surroundings which contribute to the distillation process. The proximity to fertile agricultural fields allows for access to high-quality grains and botanicals essential for their recipes.
