Uncle Nearest Distillery

Uncle Nearest Distillery was founded in 2017 by Fawn Weaver, who embarked on a mission to uncover and honor the legacy of Nathan 'Nearest' Green, the man who taught Jack Daniel the art of whiskey making. Weaver's journey began with extensive research in Lynchburg, Tennessee, which culminated in a powerful narrative about the contributions of African Americans to the whiskey industry—a story that had long been overlooked. Opened to the public in September 2019, the distillery’s first phase included a welcoming house, a bottling facility, and an engaging visitor center. Key milestones since then include significant expansions aimed at enhancing visitor experiences and increasing production capacity. In 2021, the distillery revealed its Phase Two expansion, further solidifying its place in the craft distilling industry while also expanding its commitment to community and education. Over the years, Uncle Nearest has achieved remarkable growth and recognition in the spirits market, becoming the largest-selling brand owned by African Americans, and the most awarded American whiskey brand.
