History

The Lakes Distillery was founded by Paul Currie in 2011, a venture that began with a vision to create premium spirits in one of the UK's most scenic regions. Currie, who had minor experience in distillation as one of the co-founders of the Isle of Arran Distillery, was motivated by an ambition to bring premium whisky production to England, specifically within the resonant backdrop of the Lake District. Since its establishment, the distillery has seen pivotal moments that include not only the launch of various signature spirits but also the acquisition by the UK sparkling wine supplier Nyetimber in 2024, which marked a significant investment into its future. Continuous exploration of new recipes and aging processes signifies a drive to innovate and refine its product offerings, standing out in the increasingly competitive spirits market. Achievements in prestigious awards like the World Whiskies Awards speak to its rising reputation in both the UK and international markets.
