Kavalan Distillery

Kavalan Distillery was founded in 2005, with a vision to produce high-quality single malt whisky in Taiwan. Named after the indigenous Kavalan people, who have a deep connection to the land, the distillery was born from the King Car Group’s desire to demonstrate that exceptional whisky could be crafted outside of traditional whisky-making regions. The distillery began operations in 2006 with its first spirit flowing from the stills, and after rigorous testing and refinement, the first Kavalan Classic Single Malt was released in 2008. Key milestones in the distillery's journey include its rapid rise to fame, propelled by innovative cask maturation techniques and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Recognizing the potential for maturation in a subtropical climate, the distillers at Kavalan capitalized on Taiwan's unique weather conditions, allowing their whiskies to develop remarkable depth and complexity in flavor. Over the years, Kavalan has expanded its product line to include various special editions, like the Distillery Reserve Peated Malt, which has garnered critical acclaim and awards in competitions including the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition. As of 2025, Kavalan is set to launch its first age-statement whisky that will further enhance its portfolio and showcase the mastery of its distillers. The distillery recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and is recognized as one of the leading players in the global whisky market, reflecting its ongoing commitment to innovation while maintaining the craftsmanship that is synonymous with the Kavalan name.

Kavalan Distillery is strategically located in Yuanshan Township, Yilan County, Taiwan, an area blessed with a subtropical climate that greatly influences the whisky-making process.
