Jack Daniel's Distillery

The Jack Daniel's Distillery was founded in 1866 by a young distiller named Jasper Newton Daniel, also known as Jack Daniel, in Lynchburg, Tennessee. At the age of 13, Jack was taken under the wing of a local distiller, and by the time he was 16, he had established his own distillery. Jack’s ambition and dedication to quality quickly set him apart, leading to the creation of his first whiskey recipe. Over the years, Jack Daniel’s Distillery achieved several milestones, including the construction of the iconic wooden barrel houses in 1895 that are essential to the aging process of their whiskey. In 1972, the distillery was recognized for its historical significance by being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The distillery continued to innovate into the modern era, producing a range of products and establishing a global presence. It’s gained accolades not only for its iconic Old No. 7 but also for various specialty and limited-edition releases that showcase Jack Daniel's commitment to the artistry of whiskey-making. The distillery sits in a natural hollow known colloquially as 'Stillhouse Hollow,' where a series of natural springs feed into East Fork Mulberry Creek. This particular geological setting is critical for whiskey production, as the water sourced from the springs is naturally filtered through limestone, which removes impurities like iron that could adversely affect the flavor of the whiskey. The region's temperate climate, characterized by warm summers and cool winters, plays a substantial role in the aging process of the whiskey.
