Helios Distillery was founded in 1961 by Tadashi Matsuda, a visionary determined to establish a local distillery that would celebrate and perpetuate the rich heritage of Okinawan spirits. The inception of Helios was driven by a burgeoning demand for quality local liquor, and Tadashi saw an opportunity to blend traditional techniques with modern innovation. Initially focused on producing rum from local sugarcane, Helios quickly expanded its portfolio to embrace owamori, highlighting the unique characteristics of Okinawa’s local ingredients and distillation methods.
