Delamain was founded in 1824 by an Irishman named James Delamain, who saw the potential of the Charente region for producing exceptional cognac. Recognizing the unique qualities of the local grapes and favorable distilling conditions, he established Delamain in Jarnac, aiming to create high-quality cognacs that would stand out in an increasingly competitive market. In the decades following its establishment, the Delamain family ran the distillery, maintaining the ethos of quality over quantity. This steadfast principle led to the production of some of the finest aged cognacs, with a particular emphasis on XO blends. Over the years, Delamain has embraced innovative techniques, including the usage of glass demijohns, which allow the cognac to mature gracefully while preserving its character without undue influence from wood. Milestones in the distillery's history include the celebration of its bicentennial anniversary in 2024.
