Brora Distillery

Brora Distillery was founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford, located in the remote Highland village of Brora, Scotland. Initially operating as the Clynelish Distillery, it was constructed to take advantage of the abundant resources available in the region, including its freshwater source from the Brora River, ideal for whisky production. The distillery changed its name to Brora Distillery in 1967 when a new Clynelish was built nearby. Throughout its history, Brora faced numerous challenges, particularly during the whisky market's fluctuations and changing consumer preferences. The distillery finally closed its doors in 1983, becoming one of Scotland’s legendary 'ghost' distilleries, where it remained silent for nearly four decades. However, its whiskies gained cult status during this period, with limited releases from its final years becoming legends among collectors and enthusiasts. In 2021, Brora was revived under the stewardship of Diageo, which conducted an extensive restoration to get the distillery back in operation, honoring both its historic feats and the quality of its spirit.
