The BenRiach Distillery was established in 1898 by John Duff, who, motivated by a passion for whisky-making, set out to create exceptional single malts in the Speyside region. The distillery, whose name is derived from the nearby Riach farm, began its operations during a burgeoning period for Scotch whisky, which was gaining in popularity worldwide. In its early years, BenRiach navigated various challenges, including periods of closure, particularly during the two World Wars and the whisky industry slump in the mid-20th century. However, it saw a revival in the late 20th century, marked by a significant expansion and modernization of its facilities in 1994, when a new chapter began with its reopening under new ownership.
