Founded in 1825 by 'Long' John Macdonald, Ben Nevis Distillery has remained a family-run operation for over a century before changing ownership in 1941 to the eccentric Canadian, Joseph Hobbs. Under Hobbs' ownership, the distillery continued its production, embracing both traditional methods and innovation. Over the decades, it garnered a devoted following, especially with its signature expression, Ben Nevis 10 Year Old. The distillery experienced a period of closure after 30 years of operation but later reopened, focusing on crafting single malt whiskies that honor its ancestral legacy. Despite some changes, Ben Nevis maintains its reputation as a cult distillery, embodying the spirit of the Highlands.
